Elmiron InformationGeneric Name: E: PENTOSAN (PEN-toe-san) POLYSULFATE

Common Elmiron Uses: This medicine is a bladder protectant
used to treat interstitial cystitis.
How to use Elmiron: Follow the directions for
using this medicine provided by your doctor. TAKE
THIS MEDICINE WITH A FULL GLASS of water. Take this
medicine on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before
or 2 hours after eating. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room
temperature, away from heat and light. CONTINUE TO
TAKE THIS MEDICINE even if you feel well. Do not
miss any doses. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE,
take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time
for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back
to your regular dosing schedule. Do NOT take 2 doses
at once.
Elmiron
Cautions: IT MAY TAKE 6 to 8 WEEKS for this medicine
to reach its full effect. Do not stop using this
medicine without checking with your doctor. KEEP ALL
DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are
using this medicine. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR
DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE, OR SURGERY, tell
the doctor or dentist that you are using this
medicine. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE,
either prescription or over-the-counter, check with
your doctor or pharmacist. FOR WOMEN: IT IS UNKNOWN
IF THIS DRUG IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE
OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this
medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to
discuss the risks to your baby.
Possible Elmiron Side Effects: SIDE EFFECTS
of Elmiron, that may go
away during treatment, include swelling of fingers,
hands, toes, or feet; headache; indigestion; nausea;
dizziness; or diarrhea. If they continue or are
bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR
DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience unusual
bleeding or bruising. If you notice other effects
not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or
pharmacist.
