Name: AZELAIC ACID (ay-ze-LAY-ik AS-id)
Common Finacea uses
This
medicine is used to treat a certain skin
condition called rosacea. This medicine works to
reduce the number of inflamed lesions on the
skin.
Before using Finacea
INFORM
YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription
and over-the-counter medicine that you are
taking. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE with other skin
products that can cause more irritation to you
skin (e.g., alcohol-containing cleansers,
tinctures, astringents, and peeling agents).
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist for more
information. DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine
without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform
your doctor of any other medical conditions,
allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. USE OF
THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have an
allergy to propylene glycol. ADDITIONAL
MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be
needed if you have a history or asthma, or
repeat episodes of cold sores or fever blisters
(oral herpes). Contact your doctor or pharmacist
if you have any questions or concerns about
using this medicine.
Finacea Directions
Follow
the directions for using this medicine provided
by your doctor. This medicine is usually applied
onto the skin twice daily. This medicine is only
to be used on the skin. BEFORE USING THIS
MEDICINE, wash the affected area with warm water
and mild soap or a soap-free cleanser, rinse,
and pat dry. Cover the affected area with a thin
film of medicine. Gently rub the medicine into
your skin. Wash your hands immediately after
using this medicine. Make-up may be applied over
the affected area after the medicine dries.
Applying large amounts of this medicine, or
applying it to your skin more often, will not
clear the area faster, but may increase your
chance for side effects. DO NOT COVER THE
AFFECTED AREA with gauze or a bandage unless
your doctor tells you to do so. STORE THIS
MEDICINE at room temperature at 77 degrees F (25
degrees C) away from heat, moisture, and light.
Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to
30 degrees C) is acceptable. IF YOU MISS A DOSE
OF THIS MEDICINE, use it as soon as possible. If
it is almost time for your next dose, skip the
missed dose and go back to your regular dosing
schedule.
Finacea Cautions
IT MAY
TAKE SEVERAL WEEKS for this medicine to work. If
your symptoms do not improve within 4 weeks or
if they become worse, check with your doctor. Do
not use any other medicines or special cleansers
on your skin unless your doctor instructs you
otherwise. Avoid getting this medicine in your
eyes or on the inside of your nose or mouth. If
this medicine does get into your eyes, wash your
eyes immediately with plenty of water. If eye
irritation continues, contact your doctor. FOR
WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss
with your doctor the benefits and the risks of
using this medicine during pregnancy. IT IS
UNKNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast
milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while
you are using this medicine, check with your
doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to
your baby.
Possible Finacea side effects
SIDE
EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment,
include burning, stinging, tingling, or itching
skin. Rarely, excessive facial hair growth may
occur. If any of these side effects continue or
are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK
WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you
experience unusual changes in skin color (hypopigmentation).
Those with darker skin may notice a lightening
of their skin. CONTACT YOU DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if
you experience worsening of cold sores or fever
blisters (oral herpes), or a worsening in asthma
symptoms (e.g., increased trouble breathing or
increased use of quick-relief inhalers). AN
ALLERGIC REACTION TO THIS MEDICINE is unlikely,
but seek immediate medical attention if it
occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include
rash, persistent itching, swelling, dizziness,
trouble breathing. If you notice other effects
not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or
pharmacist.

overdose is suspected, contact your local poison
control center or emergency room immediately.
This medicine may be harmful if swallowed.
Additional Finacea information
Avoiding any foods or liquids that may bring on
redness, flushing, and blushing of the skin
(e.g., spicy foods, alcohol, hot drinks) are
beneficial non-drug treatments for rosacea. DO
NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it
was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for
other health conditions. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out
of the reach of children and pets. IF USING THIS
MEDICINE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain
refills before your supply runs out.
