Chemical Name: METROGEL METRONIDAZOLE (me-troe-NI-da-zole)
Common MetroGel uses
This medicine is an antiprotozoal and
antibacterial agent used to treat redness
and inflammation associated with a skin
condition known as rosacea. This medicine
may also be used for other conditions as
determined by your doctor.
Before using MetroGel
Some medicines or medical conditions may
interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR
DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and
over-the-counter medicine that you are
taking. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if you are
also taking disulfiram. ADDITIONAL
MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be
needed if you are taking anticoagulants.
Inform your doctor of any other medical
conditions including blood disorders,
allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding.
Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you
have any questions or concerns about using
this medicine.
MetroGel Directions
Follow the directions for using this
medicine provided by your doctor. Wash and
completely dry the affected area. Gently rub
the medicine in until it is evenly
distributed. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room
temperature in a tightly-closed container,
away from heat and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE
OF THIS MEDICINE, use it as soon as
possible. If it is almost time for your next
dose, skip the missed dose and go back to
your regular dosing schedule. Do NOT use 2
doses at once.
MetroGel Cautions
IT
MAY TAKE SEVERAL WEEKS for this medicine to
work. Do not stop using this medicine
without checking with your doctor. If your
symptoms do not improve or if they become
worse, check with your doctor. Avoid getting
this medicine in your eyes or on the inside
of your nose or mouth. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU
PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your
doctor the benefits and risks of using this
medicine during pregnancy. THIS MEDICINE IS
EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. IF YOU ARE OR WILL
BE BREAST-FEEDING while using this medicine,
check with your doctor or pharmacist first
to discuss the risks to your baby.
Possible MetroGel side effects
SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during
treatment, include redness, mild dryness,
itching, burning, stinging, or skin
irritation. If they continue or are
bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT
YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you
experience tingling or numbness in hands and
feet, or nausea. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to
this medicine is unlikely but seek immediate
medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of
an allergic reaction include rash, itching,
swelling, dizziness, or trouble breathing.
If you notice other effects not listed
above, contact your doctor, nurse, or
pharmacist.

it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS
MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP
THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children
and pets. IF YOU WILL BE USING THIS MEDICINE
FOR AN EXTNEDED PERIOD OF TIME, be sure to
obtain necessary refills before your supply
runs out.
