Oxaprozin Tablets
Chemical Name: OXAPROZIN (ox-a-PROE-zin)
Common Oxaprozin uses
This medicine is a nonsteroidal
anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to
relieve the symptoms (inflammation,
stiffness, and joint pain) of arthritis.
This medicine may also be used for other
conditions as determined by your doctor.
Before using Oxaprozin
Some medicines or medical conditions may
interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR
DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and
over-the-counter medicine that you are
taking. DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you are
also taking tacrolimus or heparins.
ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR
CONDITION may be needed if you are taking
aminoglycoside antibiotics, anticoagulants,
biphosphonates (e.g., alendronate,
risedronate), cyclosporine, lithium, or
methotrexate. Inform your doctor of any
other medical conditions including kidney or
liver disease, congestive heart failure,
high blood pressure, diabetes, SLE (systemic
lupus erythematosus), ulcers, asthma, nasal
polyps, any allergies - especially aspirin/NSAID
allergy (e.g., ibuprofen, celecoxib),
pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Contact your
doctor or pharmacist if you have any
questions or concerns about taking this
medicine.
Oxaprozin Directions
Follow the directions for using this
medicine provided by your doctor. TAKE THIS
MEDICINE WITH FOOD, MILK, OR ANTACIDS if it
upsets your stomach. STORE THIS MEDICINE at
room temperature, away from heat and light.
IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE and
remember it the same day, take it as soon as
possible. If you do not remember until the
next day, skip the missed dose and go back
to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take
2 doses at once.
Oxaprozin Cautions
DO
NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU HAVE HAD A
SEVERE ALLERGIC REACTION to aspirin or any
medicine containing aspirin or to a
nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (such as
Feldene, Motrin, Naprosyn, Clinoril). A
severe reaction includes a severe rash,
hives, breathing difficulties, or dizziness.
If you have a question about whether you are
allergic to this medicine or if a certain
medicine is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory
drug, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE increased
sensitivity to the sun. Avoid exposure to
the sun, sunlamps, or tanning booths until
you know how you react to this medicine. Use
a sunscreen or protective clothing if you
must be outside for a prolonged period. DO
NOT DRINK ALCOHOL while you are using this
medicine unless you first discuss it with
your doctor. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW
MEDICINE, either prescription or
over-the-counter, check with your doctor or
pharmacist. This includes any medicines that
contain aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen.
FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT,
discuss with your doctor the benefits and
risks of using this medicine during
pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS
EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL
BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this
medicine, check with your doctor or
pharmacist to discuss the risks to your
baby.
Possible Oxaprozin side effects
SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during
treatment, include constipation or diarrhea,
nausea, or indigestion. If they continue or
are bothersome, check with your doctor.
CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you
experience swelling of feet or legs;
decrease in amount or frequency of urine;
unusual tiredness; itching; yellow color of
skin or eyes; or skin rash. CONTACT YOUR
DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY AND STOP TAKING THIS
MEDICINE if you notice any of the following
unlikely but very serious side effects:
black stools, persistent stomach/abdominal
pain, or vomit that looks like coffee
grounds. If you notice other effects not
listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or
pharmacist.

side effects or prevent a medicine from

If
overdose is suspected, contact your local
poison control center or emergency room
immediately. Symptoms of overdose may
include nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, and
stomach pain.

NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom
it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS
MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP
THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children
and pets. IF USING THIS MEDICINE FOR AN
EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills
before your supply runs out.
